*** October 27, 2025 "Annual Clean Our Blocks Initiative"
Thank you to all our neighbors, who joined us Saturday for our Annual "Fall Clean Our Blocks" Event. Forty trash bags were collected, covering over eight streets. More young members showed up this time than ever in our history.
This event is a great way to collectively take care of our neighborhood and an excellent opportunity to meet our new neighbors. Together we are stronger. Together, we can make a difference!
***May 5, 2025 Barnes & Noble is staying ! Thank you, Neighbors!

Our petition to keep Barnes & Noble open has garnered over 400 signatures. We sent it to the leadership and recently learned that B&N will reopen in November 2025.
Barnes & Noble in Park Slope is staying! They’ve renewed their lease and will be temporarily closing in July for about three months. Our petition moved the CEO, and both workers and the local manager were very thankful for our support and very relieved with the outcome. We hope that our petition was helpful. Many in the community volunteered to do more, and we were ready to do a special event and alert the press. The petition was a reasonable and necessary first step. Thank you to those who signed it.
December 15, 2024: Thank you for helping us improve Traffic and Pedestrian safety!
Our Pedestrian and Traffic Safety Survey has gathered 150 participants, yielding many high-quality responses and suggestions to make our neighborhood safer. We are now working on a detailed proposal to submit to the DOT.
We thank everyone who provided feedback on our Pedestrian and Street Safety Proposal, which was developed based on the community survey we conducted last year. Your thoughtful input and continued engagement help us advocate for safer, more accessible streets — and we’re grateful that so many of you took part in shaping these ideas. A copy of our proposal has been sent to District 39, the 78th Precinct, and Community Board 6 for official review and comment. After that, we will send an official copy to the DOT Commissioner. A copy of the proposal will be available on our website at www.sjpca.org within a few weeks.
October 31, 2024: Successful Town Hall with District 29
Great Town Hall with Shahana Hanif and the entire District 39 team. Our community greatly appreciated your participation. These forums help residents be more informed and help us be more proactive in advocating for our neighbors. The questions were diverse and substantial, and your answers were detailed. We will keep pressing on some very important issues raised during the evening. Also very excited about your office’s willingness to support a reasonable proposal to make our neighborhood safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and car drivers. For neighbors who sent us questions and were not able to come, please email us to request a full transcript of the #TownHall at SjpCommunityAssociation@gmail.com. A big thanks to #stjohnschurch and Father Ben DeHart for hosting us for now 10-plus years.
